Join us for the Escalante Canyons Art Festival, Come celebrate the stunning public lands of Utah’s canyon country. Hosted in Escalante, Utah along Scenic Byway 12 between Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks in the heart of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Plein air and studio competitions, art exhibits, on-site sales, workshops, demonstrations, arts and crafts fair, live music, guided walks, and much more.

7:30 am - Deb Harwick: Group Painting Excursions
If you are new to the festival and looking to meet up with fellow artists, or you just enjoy painting with others, please join Deb Harwick on her daily excursions. You will travel as a group to each destination in your own vehicles (although car-pooling is encouraged where possible). At the destination, set up location and length of stay will be decided by each individual.
Excursion sign-up sheets will be available at Sign-in/Stamp-in.
Mossy Cave
Drive time: 40-45 minutes on a paved road
Subject: Waterfall, cave, and a variety of rock formations
Shade: Shade can be found, but subject to high canyon walls
Amenities: Bathrooms
8:00 am - Hope Ricciardi: Onsite Oil Painting!
This will be a two-day workshop, meeting early morning and continuing until sunset, with midday lunch breaks. The group will discuss times and locations on the first morning. All levels are welcome. Please have some familiarity with your equipment and medium.

9:00 am – 2:00 pm - Bob Stevenson: Lightbulb Moments in the Circle Cliffs
Backcountry Park Ranger Bob Stevenson will explore what happens when personal stories are sandwiched between geological stories and the geopolitics of the cold war.
What ideas and stories connect these words? Anticline, Yellow Jacket, remote desert, Shinarump, Zelda, ambition, paleoenvironment, Blue Goose, family, Hot Shot, petrified wood, atomic, lightbulb. If you’re curious, join Ranger Bob for a hike into the stark and wildly beautiful Circle Cliffs region of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
Location: Anasazi State Park Museum
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm - Cindy Calbaum: Identifying Conifers of the Escalante Mountains
Cindy Calbaum will teach you how to identify the conifer species which are native to the Escalante Mountains and the basics of how to identify deciduous trees. After learning about tree identification, Cindy will lead a 1/2 mile hike from the Posey Lake Campground to the Posey Overlook 400 feet above the lake.
Location: Meet at the Escalante Interagency Visitor Center and carpool to Posey Lake Campground. Participants may also meet at Posey Lake Campground, campsite 14.
