Take a journey through time at Graham Cave State Park. Graham Cave, the National Historic Landmark for which the park is named, reveals one of the most comprehensive records of early human habitation in the United States. Hike with us to explore the natural and cultural history of the park and learn how the park's ecosystem is being restored and maintained. See restored areas reminiscent of the time before prairies became forests and cities, and see tools that early humans used to survive before the invention of supermarkets.
This moderately challenging hike will use three trails – Fern Ridge, Graham Cave and Indian Glade – and will go off-trail in Graham Cave Glades Natural Area. The total distance will be 2.5 miles, but participants will have the option to hike only 2 miles instead. Hikers are encouraged to bring water, dress in layers, and wear closed-toe shoes with good ankle support for hiking on uneven terrain. Snacks and hot chocolate will be provided at the park office after the hike.
This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, but strollers are not recommended. Pets are allowed but must be leashed.
Registration is required for this event and can be completed by clicking here. In the event of severe weather or hazardous road conditions, the hike may be canceled.
