First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.
Location: Meet at the day-use parking lot outside of the museum.
Parking: Parking is available at the day use parking lot for $8 per vehicle.
What to Expect: Kick off the new year outdoors! Join a state park guide in looking for signs of winter wildlife on Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park's South Trail. The walk is approximately 1 mile long and is moderately easy, with some stairs.
Length of Hike: 1.0 mile, 2 hours
Preparation: Please remember good walking shoes, drinking water, plenty of snacks, and warm layers as needed for the weather. Cameras and binoculars are encouraged if you have them. You may also consider packing lunch if you wish to enjoy a meal at the park after the hike.
Special Instructions: Dogs are not permitted on the trail.
Ages: All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
