When G.E.R.T.I, the onboard AI wakes Commander Jane Weigh from suspended animation earlier than planned she learns the good news and the bad news… the good news is that advancements in technology since she blasted off from Earth, towing the first habitat for the colonists who took off a year behind her, have vastly improved her trip. She’s getting there earlier than planned, using less fuel to get there, and will be able to choose between returning to earth, or staying as a treasured elder of New Earth.

The bad news? She signed-up for a solo mission for a reason. As a middle-aged, lesbian, woman she’s no longer valued by the male-oriented, conservative society for anything. No babies, no value. So here was a chance to contribute to society without having to be in that society. And, well, her mission was changed after they dropped her into suspended animation. An overseer was assigned to her ship, to make sure everything went as planned…
