Norwood's 2025 Independence Day Celebration will be held on Friday, July 4th.
The theme of this year's festivities will be "Norwood Celebrates Education"
Fourth Of July Celebration Schedule:
1:00 p.m. The Children’s Bicycle, Tricycle, Doll Carriage and Historical Character Parade This event has become a favorite for children and their families. Over 300 children decorate their tricycles, bicycles or doll carriages or come dressed as a historical character, such as Betsy Ross, Abraham Lincoln, etc. The parade, led by The Colonial Boys, begins at the First Congregational Church at the corner of Walpole and Winter Streets and proceeds through town ending at the Town Common. The fee is $1.00. Every participating child will receive a festive t-shirt and participation ribbon. Winners - those judged to have the best decorations on their vehicles or themselves - will be invited to ride in the parade.
2:00 p.m. Norwood Reads Frederick Douglass Together Volunteer readers recite the famous Fourth of July address of orator, statesman, and abolitionist Frederick Douglass “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”, in the historic Old Parish Cemetery (rear of 480 Washington St.). Sponsored by the Old Parish Preservation Volunteers.
2:30 p.m. Independence Day Carillon Concert The concert, played from the Town Hall Memorial Tower, features Margaret Angelini of Wellesley College and Norwood’s own Lee Leach. A tour of the magnificent 50-bell Memorial Carillon will take place during the Concert – Come On Up!
5:00 p.m. Norwood’s Firecracker 5K Road Race Run or watch this unique, fun-filled event prior to the Norwood Parade. You can pick up applications at the Town Hall, the Civic Center, and the Library; or register on-line here! Whether you are a spectator or a runner, this is a race you will not forget!
5:30 p.m. Eastern Massachusetts Fire Truck Procession, Antique and Classic Cars and Historic Military Reenactors
Followed by the Norwood’s Fourth of July Parade Spectacular Our annual 4th of July Parade has brought so much pleasure to residents of Norwood and surrounding communities for many years. Many bands and entertainment acts continue to return to Norwood every year to be part of the July 4th Celebration. They come because of the tremendous response and enthusiasm of the community. We hope you can join us for a spectacular day!
The parade will begin at the Coakley Middle School at 5:30 pm and will follow its usual route down Washington Street and end at the Town Hall parking lot.
Please note that Nahatan and Washington Streets will be closed at 4:00 pm.
