La Materia

La Materia is the second chapter in Olga Pericet’s trilogy, following La Leona and culminating with La Invencible. This triptych is inspired by the guitars crafted by the legendary luthier Antonio de Torres (1817-1892), considered the father of the modern Spanish guitar.

In La Leona, Pericet explored the guitar from an external perspective. With La Materia, she delves inward, evoking the essence of wood, its scent, sound, and silence. The performance marks a pivotal moment in her career, blending echoes of her artistic journey with “a new way of seeing,” as she describes it.

A hallmark of Pericet’s work is her collaboration with other creators. For La Materia, she joins forces with dancer and choreographer Daniel Abreu, co-directing, choreographing, and performing a piece that defies categorization. Both are National Dance Award winners (2018 and 2014), accompanied by José Manuel León on guitar, Juanfe Pérez on bass, and Javier Rabadán on percussion.

Location: Rodey Theatre, UNM
