FestivalSouth is a multi-disciplinary arts celebration that primarily features exceptional performing and visual artists during the month of June in Hattiesburg, MS.

Schedule of Events:

3:00 pm - 4:30 pm: The (Not So) Silent Movie – Accompanied on Organ by Douglas Rust

Back for a 3rd year in a row, The Not-So-Silent Movie returns to the Hattiesburg Saenger Theatre to screen one of the top comedy films of the silent movie era, Safety Last (1923): starring comic actor Harold Lloyd. Accompanied live on the theater organ by Doug Rust, this beloved film culminates with the image of a hysterical Lloyd dangling precariously from the hands of a Los Angeles clock tower in his spectacles. Come see why this timeless blend of comedy, romance and suspense has been engaging audiences for more than a century!

Ask Father (1919) a silent movie short will also be played.

Before and afterwards, meet-and-greet Artie and enjoy the incredible adventures of the Pocket Museum, adjacent to the Saenger.

Location: Historic Hattiesburg Saenger Theater, 201 Forrest St., Hattiesburg, MS

4:30 pm - 6:00 pm: Theaters & Theatoriums & Airdomes, Oh My!

After the silent movie, join local historian and historic preservationist, Russell Archer, for a stroll through downtown as you learn more about Hattiesburg’s earliest theaters, including a very successful silent theater and its eccentric proprietor! Wear comfortable walking shoes; water will be provided on this 90-minute walk.

Cost: $10.00
