Join us for the Schoodic Arts Festival!!

Schedule of Events:

9:00am - 12:00pm: Wet Felted Landscapes with Sandi Cirillo at SAFA Schoolhouse

Students will create a felted landscape using wool, soap and water and a little agitation. Wet and needle felting techniques will be covered. Once you learn the process, there's no end to what you can create.

1:00pm - 4:00pm: Embellished Felted Bowls with Sandi Cirillo at SAFA Schoolhouse

In this class we'll be working with wool, soap and water to create felted bowls. Using a resist method, we'll create a unique bowl using the feltmaking process. Then embellish it using various other types of mixed media. Students can bring in their own embellishments (yarns, beads, buttons, etc) to use as well.

1:00pm - 5:00pm: Creating Color with Wendilee Heath O'Brien at whopaints Studio

The next step after learning how to match color in nature is adjusting actual color so that it sings. This we will practice by delving into and applying color theory.

2:00pm - 3:30pm: Artist Talk: Derek Hayes - Images as Mirror and Window at Hammond Hall

This talk explores how the creative process can become a quiet act of reflection-a way to grow, to make meaning, and to gather the small lessons life and art offer over time.

Derek Hayes is an artist working with photography whose work has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and internationally. Originally from Ontario, Canada, he now lives and works in Maine. Derek is currently completing his first book, To Be Honest and Dreaming, with the Tokyo-based publisher Ephemere. Over the years, he has trained with several internationally recognized photographers, whose guidance has shaped his approach to craft and vision. Derek remains immersed in his own process of self-discovery and is grateful for the chance to support others in their artistic growth and exploration.

6:00pm - 7:30pm: John John Brown: Songs, Stories and Art - Lessons from Strangers - Performance at Hammond Hall

Kerrville New Folk winner John John Brown is bringing giant hand-drawn comics to the stage.
This original project weaves together storytelling songs and the visual arts in a live performance creating an immersive experience for the listener.
