Join us For Our Spectacular 52nd Season
The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival is one of the most respected and renowned chamber music festivals in the world, and part of its allure, for audiences and musicians alike, is that it draws inspiration from its namesake hometown, which is famously and affectionately known as the City Different.
Schedule of Events
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm - Redpath and Fu Recital at New Mexico Museum of Art
Liv Redpath and George Fu Recital
Just days after performing on the season-opening program, soprano Liv Redpath and pianist George Fu pair up again for a powerful yet intimate recital that includes songs by Schubert and late-Romantic masters Wolf, Grieg, and Strauss, as well as some of the many remarkable songs that Debussy wrote for his first (married) love and muse, Marie-Blanche Vasnier.
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm - Beethoven and Mendelssohn at New Mexico Museum of Art
This program of popular works by three of classical music’s best-known composers begins with an early composition by Beethoven-the Piano and Winds Quintet, whose instrumentation Beethoven took from Mozart’s 1784 quintet (which can be heard on the Festival’s July 27 and 28 concerts)-and concludes with Mendelssohn’s second and final piano trio: the passionate and fiery Piano Trio in C Minor, which Mendelssohn wrote just a couple of weeks after the premiere of his famous Violin Concerto. The program also includes Paul Watkins and Ran Dank playing Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, whose nickname is a nod to the six-stringed, bowed guitar that was (briefly) popular in the early 19th century and that Schubert originally wrote the work for.
